'Trash Not Trash'

There's a lot of crappy streetart out there but this initiative I really like. Someone has decorated several trashbins along the subway line in Stockholm with different decorative mosaic patterns and other graphic elements. The bins on the metroplatforms usually looks like bins do; functional but not very pleasing to the eye. Ok, no big deal maybe, you're supposed to dispose waste in them but does that necessarily mean they need look like shit themselves? So, hats off to whomever is taking the precious time (and money) to give these old bins a way more appealing look.

'The Chair & The Table'

I have a bulletproof recommendation to make and that is for anyone surveying this channel to book a flightticket to Thailand at your earliest convenience for no other reason than to simply sit down to enjoy and experience this particular chair and table above. If only just for a few minutes I promise it will surely create a lifelong relation to a place and a feeling I've been almost obsessively fascinated with during my 4 month stint in SE Asia. Than Sadet on Koh Phangan where I found this outpost and several other outstanding showcases of intuitive detailing, was also the place where most copywriting to my portfolio was conceived, dragging my bare feet in the sand from one side of the beach to the other and at the end of each day resting my rear on that squeaky chair overlooking the ocean and the Gulf of Thailand while jotting jibberish on any piece of paper available. This single chair and table (from now on known as The Chair & The Table) placed on a huge boulder overlooking the ocean is one of the most successful detailing initiatives I've witnessed so far during all my travels. The fact that 'The Chair & The Table' is practically falling apart and tied together with driftrope from the ocean could not be more simple and genius. It's even in comparison a quite uncomfortable chair but this doesn't affect it's ability to create an instant relation - the disruption works rather in it's advantage instead. I wanted to deliver some clever words on my own understanding as to why Than Sadet has succeeded with what many designhotels, resorts, restaurants and products are faiiing, but I have only one answer to my own questioning; no 'smart' design, no well delivered strategy - nothing but an almost eerie understanding for organic functionality. The wear and tear of Than Sadet; outstanding.

'Common Light'

I've seen a lot of this during my travels in Thailand and beyond; papercups, waterbottles and other waste recycled as decorative lampsheds on lesser developed resorts. A really appreciative simple solution and it works remarkably well with it's surroundings. These lampsheds work great for composition and actually very functional for lightcomposition and ambience. Ofcourse, it's also a reminder that there's way too much waste around but atleast because of this 'sampling' it's coming to use again.

Personal favourite; a vintage 7-Eleven t-shirt. Pick any theme.

Hard to capture, but the actual lighting this orange bucket created was outstanding at night.

'New Reality'

Kevin Lyons has done some great works for Stussy, Huf, aNYthing and others over the years and there's always a twist to his designs. I found this Natural Born tee buried way down in a drawer and although I had almost forgot about it, it's actually one of my favorite prints. A simple solution with substance so profound that it can create friends (or enemies) in an instant. A lot of feeling and it's impossible not to take a stand when wearing this print. Social commentaries on t-shirts nowadays have sort of lost its edge but this one can not be mistaken. The reference is spot on; George L. Jackson:

'We must accept the eventuality of bringing the U.S.A to its knees; accept the closing off of critical sections of the city with barbed wire, armored pig carriers crisscrossing the streets, soldiers everywhere, tommy guns pointed at stomach level, smoke curling black against the daylight sky, the smell of cordite, house-to-house searches, doors being kicked in, the commonness of death.'
