So long Asia, and thank you once again! I hope to return the favour one day.

'Simple & Plain'

So, another destination I've been obsessing about is Treehouse, a resort and restaurant on the island of Koh Chang, approximately 300 km east of Bangkok or a 3 hour drive from the Cambodian border. A wellknown travellers haunt there is definitely something special about this place. Really, I can't think of any other establishment where it has become totally acceptable for straydogs to eat leftovers straight from the table without guests so much as raising an eyebrow.

I for one am not too keen on having some beachmut putting his moisty snout in my dinner but for some odd reason I still find it acceptable and even positively memorable. Luckily it's not only this event that makes Treehouse enjoyable but rather really when thrown together with a whole bunch of other impressions it has created a setting that oddly enough is next to perfect, considering it's target group. Backpackers in general don't mind a little dirt, but rather even expect it. If you're clever enough when running an establishment catering to people travelling on a budget you let a few things pass under radar while keeping other features perfectly tuned.

A great wooden sundeck built on stilts above water

Furniture made from either driftwood or any other assymetric material once again prove to work way better than any 'designer chair'.

the Treehouse Breakfast Special

Sadly enough Treehouse will be closing down within the year to make place for yet another multicomplex standard resort meaning a definite end after 15 years.

Nice by day, perfect hang out by night.

'The Chair & The Table'

I have a bulletproof recommendation to make and that is for anyone surveying this channel to book a flightticket to Thailand at your earliest convenience for no other reason than to simply sit down to enjoy and experience this particular chair and table above. If only just for a few minutes I promise it will surely create a lifelong relation to a place and a feeling I've been almost obsessively fascinated with during my 4 month stint in SE Asia. Than Sadet on Koh Phangan where I found this outpost and several other outstanding showcases of intuitive detailing, was also the place where most copywriting to my portfolio was conceived, dragging my bare feet in the sand from one side of the beach to the other and at the end of each day resting my rear on that squeaky chair overlooking the ocean and the Gulf of Thailand while jotting jibberish on any piece of paper available. This single chair and table (from now on known as The Chair & The Table) placed on a huge boulder overlooking the ocean is one of the most successful detailing initiatives I've witnessed so far during all my travels. The fact that 'The Chair & The Table' is practically falling apart and tied together with driftrope from the ocean could not be more simple and genius. It's even in comparison a quite uncomfortable chair but this doesn't affect it's ability to create an instant relation - the disruption works rather in it's advantage instead. I wanted to deliver some clever words on my own understanding as to why Than Sadet has succeeded with what many designhotels, resorts, restaurants and products are faiiing, but I have only one answer to my own questioning; no 'smart' design, no well delivered strategy - nothing but an almost eerie understanding for organic functionality. The wear and tear of Than Sadet; outstanding.

'Jazz & Books'

Second-hand bookstore, Banglamphu district, Bangkok.

Current state: Jazz & books.

Embedded within backpacker trails for my remaining stay in Asia; recuperating from this brickheavy lot of off-road companionship. My Bourdieu and Manuel Castells obsession will probably be dealt with sometime again but for the moment I feel way too overloaded on information technology and identity 'habitus' to deal with further theorizing. Increasingly interesting but as far as I dare to say, it's obvious. The connection of personal consumption patterns (music, literature, movies, experienceassets...) and self-expressive mediainstruments is the way to go. I would like to think I'm atleast pointing my finger in the right direction so I'm also mentioning the semantic web for good evidence measure. However, for now I'm done with the books, subjects and obsessions I brought along and instead steadily re-programming with a newly acquired second-hand copy of 'Chasin The Trane'.

'Video Vidi Visum'

Evening session @ Than Sadet

I've cut n' pasted together most parts of my new portfolio now. Went into nutmode on New Years Eve and Day completing the 20 first pages out of a total of 64 which I also sent away and contributed to an exciting invitation. Hopefully more on this in the future. I decided to cover a few keyconcepts which I personally find interesting at the moment and also relevant to communication- /media-/advertising industry/ in general; self-expression, identity, web development, popular nische, massinnovation... 80% of all pictures, copy, statements, layout, colouring, patterns... is in place with only a few missing pieces. Conceived most of the ideas while traversing by bus, bike, ferry and foot through Thailand, Kambodja, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Page 3 news:
'The new economy of information technology, globilization and networking is rapidly transforming our consuming habits and ways of interacting. The emergence of a mobile global culture is changing identities on the basis of active participation. Service- and social media experiences such as YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, Jaiku and Facebook all reveal symptoms of intensified desires of self-expression. Disruptive behaviour in all areas of society demand an increased awareness of how, when and where to relate and respond to more complex patterns of consumption'

Heading for Ranong

Headings: Myanmar border. Activity: stealth planning.
