Time to pull the nischeflag since it's all surfing now. Kuta isn't changing much, still a tourist tenement ghetto mixed in with the usual testosterone driven surfing hoard. The beachwaves at Kuta Beach are always fun but the challenge begins at the Bukit peninsula. As usual taking up camp in Bingin.

First day surfing
Balangan and I cut my foot bad enough to be confined to antibiotics for a week and a sour life sulking on dry land. Or rather, I'm trying to cure my crave for waves by watching cheap bootleg surf DVDs. The matter of fact is that not many surfmovies I've seen (plenty) top the true ambiance and spirit of surfing that you'll find in
September Session or
Thicker Than Water, but the ones above will provide enough remedy for not driving me insane. Honestly, most surfmovies are utter crap. The editing is usually amateurlike to say the least and the seemingly standard rock/beachblues soundtrack makes a 35-40 minute watch horrendous at times. However, for now I'll take whatever manmade illusion I can get.

Ever since the last political crisis in 2005-2006, the whole of Thailand has been a veritable sea of yellow as the people of Thailand show support for their
king Bhumibol. It is virtually everpresent; flags, clothing, everywhere. Yellow is usually worn on and associated with Mondays (King Bhumibol was born on a Monday), but is proudly worn by Thais on any day of the week. December 5 is the 80th birthday celebration of His Majesty, an event surely not to be missed. King Rama IX, Bhumibol Adulyadej is the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest-serving monarch in Thai history. I'm off to Malysia and Indonesia before then but will try to make it back to Bangkok to witness the celebrations.

asia'Than Sadet'
Than Sadet, east Koh Phangan, Thailand. Amazing quality and not too overintended. Wrestle down a steep hillside road for 40 minutes and get rewarded with a myriad of impressions. The concrete x seashell steps by the bridge and the recycled lamps make great detailing. Will not speculate in what this place have turned into in 5-10 years (residential, commercial?) Whatever the investment it should be made with help of expertise to keep development work naturally.

Experiencing the field for a few months. Won't really keep a precise schedule except for a few appointed stops. As mentioned I'll also be rearranging my entire (planner) portfolio along the way, getting rid of anything that might resemble a traditional (advertising) case. New movements are imminent which mean no more shoegazing. Time to focus on the horizon.
Let the games begin:
Horizons - LTJ Bukem
I'm Leaving - Don Carlos
Hold On - Romanthony
Hymn Of The Big Wheel - Massive Attack

Finished handpicking a few relevant themes for my trip out East. I might've overdone it by squeezing in both Clausewitz, Bourdieu, Manuel Castells and McLuhan into one but I will be trying to keep a red thread while reading these books. Cultural studies overall, identity, and strategy will be the keywords this time.
'SE Asia Lonely Planet':
Will come in handy from time to time.
'Cultural Critisism' - Arthur Asa Berger
'The Ethics of Identity' - Kwame Anthony Appiah
I'm suspecting this book will definitely be useful to have some grasp on; whatever social structure might be the interest of study.
'Understanding Media' - Marshall McLuhan
A little revision; just to stay on point.
'Rise of The Network Society' - Manuel Castells
I'll probably invade some small outer island while trying to get through this. 600 pages of futuristic formulas and I won't be foolish enough to try giving some weird review on this. Just for mental practice.
'Consuming Behaviour' - John Desmond
Postgraduate literature, no reading between lines here. Pure focus and one week later you're left with 5 pages of doodads and jottings.
'Texts on the Intellectuals' - Pierre Bourdieu
Fierce combatant, sociologist; a personal favorite.
'On War' - Carl Von Clausewitz
Occasionally (no, not that often really, but still) reading and jotting notes on Tao Te Ching, Seven Strategies and Wen Tzu so I'm obligated to read this one now. 'On War' should've probably been read first, but being introduced to strategy overall through a different channel, this is the first Clausewitz I read. Strictly theoretical analysis here - not really intending to start an armed revolution, rather the opposite.
