Nylon Magazine:
The only reason I picked up Nylon is the Nigo article which took about 5 minutes to read - then I hoisted that magazine in the bin. I won't start to mouth off on how much I nowadays dislike noncritical publications and the whole idea of prepackaging lifestyles. However, the Nigo interview didn't come off too bad and gave a few glimpses into the whole marketing scheme of Bathing Ape. The US market is wide open for Japanese and Asia Pacific branding and BA will probably keep doing well with the suburbanites and collegekids in many years to come.
Scientific American:
Far from what I normally scan for at my local pickup spot but I thouroughly enjoyed its headstory - 'The Memory Code'; a report on how the brain stores experiences and turn that information into memories. I can't say with my nonexistant knowledge in brain neurology that I could grasp the whole picture but the key concepts really had me thinking. It shows how important it is to create experiences in whatever we do and charge it with emotion, or else the brain will replace it and make room for more important data.
Fast Company:
Long and well researched story on the rise of Chinas
new creative industry. Some might still believe that the Western world have an advantage when it comes to creating and developing ideas and then making China produce and manufacture for cheap, but for anyone that has been to Beijing, Shanghai or any other of the forty cities with a population exceeding 1million it is clear as glass that China is no longer content to serve as factory outlet to the world. China today according to this article has become the world's third-largest exporter of creative services and products. Sounding like modified facts to me but China is definitely already a serious contender within advertising, design, architecture, film and other artforms.
Monocle:
Monocle has turned into a necessary habit. Wallpaper, Financial Times, Huge - all in one.
Business 2.0:
I'm starting to take a serious interest with all the talk regarding the semantic web and this issue has an article explaining the basics of it's creation. I need to pick up a book - now.
